The Backseat Diaries

On our way to Ohio, I looked back and saw them holding hands. I generally try to avoid handling electronics while driving, but I could not resist snapping the sweet evidence.
Caught in the classroom crossfire of a toddler block-hurling rampage, my boy has a shiner. He looks like an inmate.

Giving Thanks

Bats, Santa, cows, pigs, sheep... and "the entire world and everything that lives on it, like plants, and the solar system, especially all the planets and all the stars."

Cranbrook Morning

I love this chilly fall day. Hunching, watching, wondering, following, hand-holding. They know these trails like their own backyard -- where to find the bark and stick hut; turtles sitting on rocks at the edge of the pond; their favorite statues (the centaurs!); and the stage, where we command grand performances for the creatures of the woods.

Violinist

He loves the ritual of it: getting it out of the case, tightening the bow slack, rubbing the resin along the hairs. And he's really quite good. I expected to recoil in pain, but it's so overwhelmingly darling.
